When we have attended shows and events, the watchword everyone is using for budget friendly tracking is…….Airtags! Either Apple Airtags, Android Airtags or their Tile sticker equivalent. They are great, right? Cost around £30-40 get to find out where your Pet, Keys, Wallet or know where your Child is at any time by using the Bluetooth Signal from Nearby Bluetooth Enabled devices with Bluetooth left active. They are fantastic at doing what they are designed for and for that, use them. They are great!
It WASN’T developed to track Motorcycles and stolen vehicles! You need to be aware of this, and it is not a guaranteed form of recovery – in fact, it would rarely see a successful recovery! It will work in some case, Youtuber Noraly from Itchy Feet managed to find her bike that had been stashed in a hedge by thieves – and for that, it is great. The success of this, has meant a surge of interest in Bluetooth Tags in place of trackers. However, if the bike is taken away – then there is a common measure used to deactivate this already very limited form of tracking.
Stalker Mode On!
Young women found that life’s creepy people, were dropping airtags into the bags of attractive young ladies or men – to find out where they lived. This grew warranted concern from customers, so all the tags had a new feature. This was called ‘Stalker Mode’ – where an unknown airtag being in close proximity to your phone would not only alert you to it’s presence – but direct you to it’s location, trigger it to emit a beep and even gave detailed information on when it was first picked up, where you had been tracked from, and even instructions on how to disable it.
So you think a thief, that has access to scanner, jammers and so on – doesn’t know this? They do, and they use it. It is only right that we educate on this matter, not to annoy you, or wet your fireworks. But forewarned, is forearmed. We want you all to be secure!
It Isn’t all Bad News.
There are entry level Trackers from many companies, that are there to track assets such as trailers and caravans for example. Similarly battery powered – only they are proper GPS trackers. They are not infallible, and yes they are live trackers, prone to scanning and Jamming – However, they are still more useful that an Air Tag is AND more importantly – these entry level devices are available from £25, a very similar price to an Air Tag, meaning that those on a budget and unable to warrant the cost of a professional tracking unit can use these in place of your ‘good for tracking bags’, air tags!
Don’t forget to SHARE far and wide, and hopefully keep a mates’ bike safe!
If you found this information helpful, you can always leave the price of a coffee on our van appeal page as a thank you!
Thanks In Advance
